Rangdajied United Could Be the Kingmakers in the Shillong Premier League Title Race
The Shillong Premier League 2026 title race could come down to a team that is no longer in contention for the crown. Rangdajied United, currently fifth in the table, have two matches remaining — against Mawlai on October 6 and Shillong Lajong on October 9. While Rangdajied cannot win the title themselves, the results of those two games could have a major say in who eventually lifts the trophy. At the top of the table, Mawlai lead with 18 points, followed by Shillong Lajong on 17 and Langsning FC on 16. All three teams have one match remaining. Rangdajied sit on 10 points with two games left, while Nongkseh are fourth with 13 points and also have two matches remaining. Rangdajied's two-match test Rangdajied's first challenge comes on October 6 against league leaders Mawlai. A victory for Rangdajied would deny Mawlai valuable points and potentially open the door for Lajong Nongkseh and Langsning. Three days later, Rangdajied face Shillong Lajong. Another positive result could further reshape the title race before the final matches are played. That makes Rangdajied the unexpected kingmakers of the competition. Langsning FC and Nongkseh SC watching closely The team with perhaps the most to gain from Rangdajied's results are Langsning FC & Nongkseh SC. Langsning currently have 16 points and one game remaining — against Nongkseh on the final day. For Langsning to finish as champions, they need the teams above them to drop points. If Rangdajied can defeat both Mawlai and Lajong, the title race could swing dramatically in Langsning's favour. In that scenario, Langsning would need to take all three points against Nongkseh in their final game to put themselves in position to finish top. But Nongkseh must also play their part. If Nongkseh take all three points against Laitkor today, they would move onto 16 points and keep themselves firmly in contention. there is still plenty to be decided before that final day. Every point matters Mawlai currently have the advantage with 18 points, but their position is far from secure. Lajong are just one point behind, while Langsning are only two points off the summit. Nongkseh, meanwhile, remain mathematically relevant with 13 points and two games still to play. Rangdajied may be sitting fifth and out of the championship race, but their remaining fixtures are against two of the teams fighting for the title. That gives their final two games enormous importance. October 6: Rangdajied United vs Mawlai October 9: Rangdajied United vs Shillong Lajong Two matches. Two title contenders. And potentially, one very important question for the SPL 2026 title race: Will Rangdajied United decide who becomes champion?
